As I said in the last post we all see rough times from time to time.  It is our choice to decide what we do with our current situation and how we feel about it.  Let me fill you in a bit.

As you know my purpose in life is to serve others the best I can.  The businesses I run also follow that same mantra.  There really is no reason to have a business unless you can do something that is a service to others.  There is no reason to have employees unless what you can provide them is a service to them.

As you know however the current economic situation has far reaching effects no matter what you do.  Currently we are finding that the majority of the customers that normally order this time of year are holding on to their money, despite having, for the most part, one of the best seasons on record.  How does this affect my business?  A large number of my employees, whom I know the Lord blesses me to serve, are out of work and laid off.  I don’t know that there is much I can do about the situation.  We are working and doing all the things that have made us successful in the past (growth of $200k – $400k a year).

So what do I do? 

• Instead of filling my prayers with the ‘why mes’, I ask for guidance with perfect faith that my Heavenly Father will show me the way. 
• For every seemingly bad thing that happens I find two things I am grateful for.  Positive energy is far more powerful than negative.
• I look for education:  Life is all about learning.  I know that Heavenly Father will place in front of me those opportunities that will help me make the changes that we need to make so this business can continue to server over the long term.
• Take a look at the real numbers:  Don’t have a good handle on the financials “GET ONE!”  (That link may sound a little crazy at first but read at least the introduction).
• Understand that without a little exercise my faith muscles will not work any more.

As I look over the financials I find that we are still doing better than the previous years ‘07 and ‘06.  Our quotes are steady.  We give lots of quotes for budget planning.  So we are still doing ok.  I find that every year we are blessed with some job that boosts our sales in some area.  Usually it is somewhat out of the ordinary, but opens our eyes to new opportunities.  We are not in trouble, by a long shot.  The way we have run our business from a place of service thus far has made us very strong.

My attitude will determine our success.  My attitude rubs off on the other managers and employees.  My sales staff bring in sales every week.  I know that as soon as our customers feel just a bit safer about the upcoming season and where they are getting any financing they need they will order.
